Special Half-day Seminar at the Japan Foundation, Sydney - 13 July Don’t miss out!!

The AFMLTA conference will be held from 10 July to 12 July and the JSAA-ICJLE conference will be held from the evening of 13 July to 16 July in Sydney. In conjunction with these two conferences and to offer an opportunity for those who cannot attend, we will conduct a half-day seminar for teachers of Japanese. This seminar will focus on how to introduce/ teach culture in Japanese classes using PPT presentations and movies. Please come and join our workshop!

Sensei’s Pages updated: J-movies as ILTL resources New!

In this issue, we would like to suggest using Japanese movies (J-movies) as Intercultural Language Teaching and Learning (ILTL) resources. After making task sheets for J-movies shown at our Japanese Film Festival and school visits to our centre, we realized that movies can also be a good classroom resource for teaching language embedded in culture.

Intensive Seminar for Teachers of Japanese New!
The Japan Foundation will hold an Intensive Seminar for Secondary Teachers of Japanese from 28th September - 1st October 2009. Applications must be submitted through Educational Authorities in each state by the end of July 2009.

2009 Japanese Language Proficiency Test New!

The JLPT is conducted worldwide annually in December to evaluate and certify Japanese language proficiency in non-native speakers. The 2009 test will be held on Sunday 6 December. Please stay tuned, our website will be updated with further details and application information next month.

 
Donation of Language Resources New!
We would like to thank Megan Madden from Wellers Hill State School in Queensland for her kind donation of Hiragana Building Blocks. After processing, they will be available to borrow from the Japan Foundation, Sydney library. They are a fun way to practice spelling interactively!
 
Video まつり

Do your students enjoy making videos? Our new Nihongo event, ‘Video まつり’ begins this year. The objective of this festival is to enable students to use their creative abilities to showcase their Japanese and we hope students and teachers will take up the challenge to create a video using Japanese! 2009 Online Basic Japanese Courses for Teachers of Japanese 2009 Term 3

The 2009 Term 3 Online Basic Course will start from 27 July 2009. Applications close on 24 July. In Term 3, we will offer Stages 1, 2 and 3 of the Basic course, and the Online Japanese Writing Course.

The 2009 Speech Contest information has been uploaded and we renewed the site. Please check the website for information about your state’s speech contest. JSAA-ICJLE 2009 International Conference - July 13-16, 2009

The Japanese Studies Association of Australia (JSAA) is delighted to host JSAA-ICJLE 2009. Featuring research and discussion in various disciplines of Japanese language and studies, the main theme of the conference will be "Bridging the gap between the Japanese language and Japanese studies". The conference aims to provide a forum for Japanese language and studies academics and educators from around the world to meet and share ideas beyond and across their disciplines.
