Workshops by our language consultants New!

On 31 August and 1 September, we will present workshops at the Japanese Language Proficiency Day in Townsville and Cairns. We want many Japanese language teachers to come to these workshops. Please contact the Catholic Education Office in Townsville and Cairns to apply (although these workshops are conducted by CEO, EQ and AISQ teachers are welcome to attend the workshops). Hope to meet you there!

 
Intensive Seminar for Teachers of Japanese

Video まつり Applications close by the end of September

Thank you for your interest in our Video Matsuri. We are looking forward to seeing your entries! The objective of this festival is to enable students to use their creative abilities to showcase their Japanese and we hope students and teachers will take the challenge to create a video using Japanese! There are 4 divisions: Primary, Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary and Tertiary.

Speech Contest Download posters!
In the upcoming months, Japanese Language Speech Contests will be held Australia wide at state/territory level. This year we have made state/territory posters for teachers to print and promote this event to all students of Japanese. Click here to download your state/territory poster for your classroom.
 
Presentation at AFMLTA conference and JSAA-ICJLE conference
Our language consultants conducted workshops and seminars at the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teacher's Associations (AFMLTA) conference and Japanese Studies Association of Australia –International Conference on Japanese Language Education (JSAA-ICJLE) conference in July. For those who couldn't attend these conferences, we have put a simplified version of the Powerpoint presentation on our website.

Half Day Seminar July 13 2009 - Thank you for your participation
At this seminar we presented a new activity resource containing Power point presentations from the Japan Foundation Kansai Centre. We also screened the Japanese movie ‘Happy Family Plan’ and introduced accompanying task sheets.
 
Sensei’s Pages: J-movies as ILTL resources
If you missed our last issue, we presented ideas for using Japanese movies (J-movies) as Intercultural Language Teaching and Learning (ILTL) resources. After making task sheets for J-movies shown at our Japanese Film Festival and school visits to our centre, we realized that movies can also be a good classroom resource for teaching language embedded in culture.
