NSW State Final
The 40th NSW State Final Japanese Language Speech Contest was held on Saturday 19 September. Congratulations to the NSW winners who will now proceed to the National Final and thank you to all those who attended, it was a very enjoyable day.

| 2009 Japanese Language Program for High School Students |
The Japan Foundation Sydney was delighted to recently send three promising Australian students of Japanese to participate in the 2008 Japanese Language Program for High School Students. This annual program is a two week in-Japan study tour, involving students from sixteen countries around the world, which offers an exciting opportunity to see and experience Japan and Japanese culture first-hand. This year's lucky students had an amazing time! They have written their impressions and included some of their photos from their trip to share with Omusubi readers.

Information about the 2010 program will be distributed through state/territory educational authorities (candidates from Australia are rotated on a state or territory basis each year due to the limited number of positions). |

From 2005, The Japan Foundation, Sydney started offering Online Basic Japanese courses for teachers of Japanese from Stage 1. From this month we are offering our final stage – Stage 4.

| Intensive Seminar for 2010! Applications open! |
The Japan Foundation will be holding its next Intensive Seminar for Junior Secondary Teachers of Japanese from 18 – 21 January 2010.
These four day seminars focus on Japanese language teaching methodology, use and creation of teaching resources and proficiency upgrading. Participants are immersed in the Japanese language and culture, enabling them to enhance their Japanese skills in an authentic environment. The seminar also provides an ideal opportunity to network with other Japanese teachers and share ideas and resources.
As applications must be submitted through Educational Authorities in each state, please check with them for deadline dates.
Please note applications sent directly to the Japan Foundation will not be accepted.

| Intensive Seminar for Secondary Teachers of Japanese, 28 Sept – 1 Oct |
The Japan Foundation was pleased to host an Intensive Seminar at our office last month. Twenty three teachers from throughout Australia and New Zealand attended a 4 day seminar, where participants immersed themselves in Japanese language and gained many valuable teaching methods and resources. |
